Hans: Collected Memories
Chronicling a colourful life for a 99th birthday.
Journey
Almost an impressive century old, Hans has lived an incredible life — and one that his family wanted remembered for his great grandchildren and future generations.
From his childhood experiences of occupied Holland in World War 2, to his travels across Europe and Africa for work, and final retirement in England, his colourful story made the perfect collection for a bespoke memoir book that his loved ones could treasure.
Outcome
The memoir came together across 3 interview sessions, speaking with those who knew him best and sifting through a number of photo albums to best identify the memories of interest. All layout, arrangement and design was handled by me personally, creating distinct chapters of significance.
Once proofed and checked with the family, 20 beautiful hardback books were produced. In total, it contained 127 pages with over 100 photos and images, printed in timeless black and white.
A digital PDF version was also made, to allow emailing and sharing of the piece with friends and family.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better gift to mark this significant birthday. The memoir captured Hans’ family history, memories and notable moments in life, much of which we had never heard about before!
“Charlie was patient, courteous and handled each interview session with sensitivity for his age, often returning to topics as new memories came to light.
“This is something our family will be able to pass down and continue to remember a beloved grandfather, especially for those too young to know him today.”
